BE WATER FRIENDLY

Living in the Great Lakes Basin, we take freshwater for granted.  Not so for others living elsewhere on this planet.  We must recognize that freshwater is a finite resource.  Out of our respect for the Great Lakes and others not so fortunate, Great Lakes Citizens must not only get on board with and practice water conservation, we must lead the way as stewards of the waters in the Great Lakes Basin.

  • Tips for Water Efficiency is from the WaterSense program and offers water saving ideas and programs to businesses, communities and utilities.
  • Smarter Water Management from IBM offers ideas on water management for businesses andcommunities around the world.  There are excellent examples on the amount of water required to produce certain products.
  • IBM Global Initiative Outlook Report on Water Management offers a big picture report .  There are contributors to this report with whom we are naturally suspicious of as they are pursuing privatization.  However, we strongly believe that businesses large, small and local will bring many solutions and sustainability to the table through the free market.  We support this entrepreneurial spirit but only if it encompasses water as a Human Right. 
  • Water Conservation and the Soft Path is from the Polaris Institute and also offers alternatives for water conservation and water management.
