There are immeasurable issues causing sickness, death and poverty due to the lack of safe, fresh water to over one billion people. Global water corporations want to meet the need through private control and sale of water. Citizens and communities want to retain their legacy of assuring water is public , as it has been done for thousands of years.

These issues are immense and complex, but solvable if the water crisis is understood as a commons held in public trust as opposed to a commodity or product with only market solutions that seek efficiency over the human right and respect for water.

We have pulled together web links to numerous organizations that are working to solve the world water crisis. The outline below presents the facts, an overview, the issues, examples, and possible solutions to this crisis. We have also listed a few non-profit organizations that are in the field to give you a sense of global efforts and the challenges these organizations face. There are hundreds of organizations all over the world including many members of the Flow For Water Coalition working to educate and solve one of the greatest issues facing humankind.

This outline is by no means intended as a complete resource. We have sought to select representative and educational materials for quick reference to help others rapidly learn about the world water crisis and take action to help bring about human, ecological, and just solutions. Please use it as a starting point. Let us know if you have suggestions to improve or add to the outline.

Overview of the Issues

The issues of the global water crisis are complex and immense.  We are providing links that gives one an overview of the issues.  We then present the issues individually and have provided links that try to tackle these issues one by one.

Human Rights vs. Privatization

We believe that access to safe, fresh drinking water is a Human Right.  We believe the best way to guarantee this right is through the principles of public trust in water.  We believe that privatization of water is not a solution as it takes away this Human Right and breaches public trust.

The UN just adopted a resolution that states all Humans have a right to fresh clean drinking water that hopefully will direct the world away from privatization as a solution to the water crisis.  Each of the following links are leading organizations working on the human rights issues.

The following links represent just a few of the battles going on between human rights groups and the large foreign corporations trying to take over water.
